We are a small statuary company based in Knoxville, TN.
This dream team consists of a grandmother and grandson duo that has their sights set on sprucing up all the gardens in and around Knoxville with some gorgeous quality concrete statuary. We aim to provide not only a better service, but also finer quality products than comparable big box stores in the area.
–Humble Beginnings
Earlier this year we set out to surprise my grandmother by giving her garden a complete makeover. With this new makeover, we wanted to spice it up with some concrete art. Maybe a turtle and a couple mushrooms. Maybe a huge garden gnome…? We could add an alligator to lurk under the thick foliage of the peonies. That would be sure to get her attention. The possibilities were endless.
There was only one problem. The price. Typical concrete statuary can be extremely expensive. After going to the first nursery and seeing a concrete mushroom in the 4-6in range selling for over $30 (Was actually more, but I don’t want to out anybody), I told myself quite possibly naively at first that I could do it not only cheaper, but better. I got to work, scouring the internet for videos, sending numerous emails to people and companies in this space and came up with a plan.
I started scouring the internet for information on making statuary, sending emails to companies as well as talking to some wonderful people that have been in the business for quite some time. My grandmother and I decided to make a partnership in the state of Tennessee, as she was just retiring, and needed something to do here and there. From there, It’s been quite a learning experience. After a few weeks, and for the low price of way more than the cost of the original from the nursery (believe it or not mold making is not cheap), multiple iterations of the mold, and my time. A lot of time… I had done it! My very own concrete mushroom to put in our garden. What’s even better is you don’t have to go through all that hassle like we did. This one sells in our shop for only $10 (Shameless plug). We have a great time working together on this project, and look to continue to add to our collection. It would be amazing to see our statues in yards all over the knoxville area. Eventually I’d like for this to become a community space that requests can be put in, and we can maybe get some customer photos of our statues around town.
